Geothermal Energy is HOT!

Going deep in search of renewable energy sources.

The energy industry is literally digging deep into natural steam, hot water and hot dry rocks from the Earth’s crust in an effort to generate clean and green renewable energy. Now we can say that there is wave in geothermal development projects worldwide.

geothermal Geothermal Energy is HOT!

Why geothermal energy.

  1. It is clean. Geothermal Energy can be extracted without burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil or gas. And i only produces one-sixth of the amount of carbon dioxide that natural gas-fueled power plants do.
  2. It is available. Geothermal energy is accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Compared to wind and solar energy this is great advantage. Ant it has an average availability rate of 90 percent versus 75 percent for coal plants.
  3. It is homegrown. Geothermal energy makes countries less dependent of foreign energy sources like oil.

Of course I will list and some Disadvantages:

  1. Geothermal PowerВ  Plants construction can affect land (seismic ) stability in the surrounding area.
  2. There are still some emissions: levels of carbon dioxide, nitric oxide, and sulfur, although at roughly 5% of the levels emitted by fossil fuel power plants.
  3. Geothermal plant theoretically may provide energy for many decades but eventually specific locations may cool down.

And now to summarize:

Geothermal energy offers many advantages over traditional fossil fuel based energy sources. The energy produced is clean and safe for the environment. It provides sustainability because the hot water used in the geothermal process can be re-injected into the ground to produce more steam. It is independent from the weather conditions. Geothermal power plants work 24/7. From the financial point of view geothermal energy is extremely price competitive in some areas and reduces dependence on traditional energy sources and their price unpredictability. The geothermal power is very scalable – one large plant can supply with energy entire cities while smaller power plants can produce energy for distanced villages.
