EILAT, ISRAEL (February 17, 2009) – Solel Solar Systems announced today that it has begun
construction on a 50 MW solar field in Lebrija, Spain featuring the company’s state-of-the-art
SunField LP technology and equipment.
The $150 million project utilizes Solel’s UVAC 2008 solar receivers, parabolic mirrors, collector
assemblies and patented control systems to capture sunlight and convert it to the most possible
heat for clean energy. In addition, Solel is providing project design, engineering and integration
services. The Lebrija project, called Lebrija-1, has an overall cost of $400 million, and is being
developed in partnership with Valoriza Energia, a subsidiary of Sacyr Vallehermoso, a leading
Spanish construction company based in Madrid. Valoriza Energia is providing to the consortium
the power block, civil works, and auxiliary systems. The project will be operational in 2010.
“Solel’s complete solar field technology and equipment is the best way to create maximum
power from available sunshine,” Avi Brenmiller, Solel’s President and chief executive officer,
said today at the Eilat Energy Conference. “Our reliable and bankable SunField LP equipment
makes affordable solar energy a reality, and our projects, such as Lebrija-1, create hundreds of
jobs at both our manufacturing facilities and on-site.”
The SunField LP builds upon Solel’s deep solar engineering experience and decades of on-site
testing at the commercially operational solar thermal facilities in California and at Solel’s Negev
Desert test facility. All of its components, including the Solel 6 collector assemblies, the UVAC
2008 receivers, the parabolic mirrors, the metal structures and the Field Supervisory Control
systems, are precisely designed, manufactured and integrated by Solel to work in harmony to
extract the greatest amount of energy.
With the Lebrija project, Solel equipment is generating more than 400 MW of installed capacity
of clean energy at both its own projects and at solar fields of other developers in the U.S. and
Spain that have installed Solel equipment. Solel also has orders to deliver equipment over the
next 24 months that will generate an additional 850 MW of solar energy.
About Solel Solar Systems Ltd.
Solel is the leader in utility scale solar thermal technologies, providing the solar "fuel" for
producing clean electricity. The Solel parabolic trough technology has proven itself
commercially over two decades with the continuous production of 354 MW of utility scale
power, helping California consumers reduce their annual oil consumption by two million barrels.
In addition, Solel provides the key technology for new solar power plants in the U.S. and Spain
and other sun-rich locations. Solel’s headquarters, manufacturing plant and R&D center are in
Beit Shemesh, Israel, and it operates in the U.S. through its subsidiary, Solel Inc. In Spain, Solel
operates through its subsidiary, Solel Spain, and is represented for sales by Pasch Y CIA. For
