groSolar Provides Solar Power for the First Carbon Neutral House on East Coast

“GreenHouse” showcases energy efficient design and renewable energy systems in a home that is both environmentally friendly and a beautiful place to live.

White River Jct., VT – National energy leader groSolar today announced its completion of energy systems for the first carbon-neutral house on the east-coast, in which energy will provide the building’s electricity and hot-water needs.

“groSolar brought a lot of expertise and credibility related to clean energy to this project,” said CharityWorks CEO Mark Turner. “The GreenHouse shows that renewable energy systems can and should be a key consideration in building-design and we’re thrilled to be able to showcase that.”

“We are proud to be involved in this project because it’s a great example of how good design and sustainability should go together,” said groSolar’s CEO Jeff Wolfe. “We’re proud that our energy systems are playing a large role in making this a carbon-neutral house.”

The collaborative project was put together by CharityWorks, a Washington D.C. based volunteer-based non-profit. The “GreenHouse” was designed by the architectural firm of Cunningham Quill, and constructed by WEST*GROUP in collaboration with Fairfax County based GreenSpur, Inc.  It features the eco-friendly designs of 19 acclaimed interior designers led by internationally recognized designer Barry Dixon. The home includes a broad array of sustainable furnishings, fabrics and finishes.

“It’s been wonderful to be involved in the design and construction of this one-of-a-kind home,” said groSolar representative Tim Grahl. “This sets a solid example for the future of home construction.”

The GreenHouse will exceed LEED Platinum Certification requirements. Based on the Energy Star Yardstick this home is more energy efficient than 99.99% of the homes built since 2000. Located within walking distance of downtown McLean, the CharityWorks GreenHouse will open to the public on October 10 for a three-week run. More info is available at www.charityworksgreenhouse.com
