To this end, IBC SOLAR installed a solar park on the land used earlier as the headquarters of the 16th tank division until the end of 1993.
Almost 39,000 polycrystalline modules were installed on an area of around 25 hectares in size. The solar power plant supplies 2.684 households with electricity and helps to save 4,480 tons of CO2 by this environmentally friendly method of generating electricity each year.
“With this solar park, the town of Neustrelitz is putting fallow land to optimal use”, explained Udo Möhrstedt, CEO of IBC SOLAR AG. “In order to ensure that there is no risk, we engaged a munitions recovery service to accompany the building work. This means that the land has been professionally and thoroughly examined and now presents no dangers. With the solar park, the former military training ground will contribute to environmentally friendly electricity production. This will give the ground time to recover so that it can later be used for farming or building.”
