SANYO to Provide Solar Panels and Lithium-ion Batteries for Mitsubishi Chemical’s 40Ft container Vegetable Factory
New Application for SANYO’s Smart Energy Systems
SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. (SANYO) has just announced that it will provide a power system that combines solar panels and lithium-ion batteries as an option for a "40Ft container Vegetable Factory" already released by Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Yoshimitsu Kobayashi, Representative Director, Member of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer). This power system will soon undergo a verification test for use with the "40Ft container Vegetable Factory."
SANYO has started to undertake full-fledged expansion of its energy solution business to bring about a dramatic reduction of CO2 emissions and running cost to various facilities, such as factories, schools, and stores, through offering the Smart Energy Systems (SES) which combine technologies for Energy Creation (photovoltaic system), Energy Storage (rechargeable battery), and Energy Saving (commercial equipment, etc.).
The vegetable factory will be powered by a hybrid grid that also draws commercial power, based on a system that incorporates SANYO’s `HIT solar panels’ (2kW) and `lithium-ion batteries’ (3.14 kWh is planned). The electricity stored in the lithium-ion batteries will mainly be used for direct-current LED lights to grow vegetables in the vegetable factory. Once the system is complete, the solar panels will generate electricity, which is then stored in the rechargeable batteries, eventually enabling vegetable cultivation in regions not served by an electrical grid.
In the future, SANYO Electric will continue to develop and offer a variety of energy solutions to realize energy creation (Generate), energy storage (Recharge), and energy utilization (Utilize).
