Phase 1 of Second P2 Moorings Installation Completed
PWP has completed the first phase of moorings installation work for the second Pelamis P2 machine due to be installed at EMEC next year. This machine is being supplied to Scottish Power Renewables and is currently being manufactured at PWP’s Leith assembly facility.
Lyness harbour was used as a marshalling site for the installation, where PWP took delivery of the main anchors, chain, shackles and connection plates. Delta Marine’s Voe Viking was the main vessel used for installation and surveying, with Orkney Harbours vessels from Flotta terminal assisting with anchor embedment activities.
As the sixth mooring installation that PWP has carried out to date, the company builds on a wealth of unrivalled operational experience. The second phase of the work will be carried out in spring 2011 when a dynamic cable will be spliced to EMEC’s static cable to provide a connection to the national grid. This will complete the subsea infrastructure to allow Scottish Power Renewables’ Pelamis to be connected on completion of manufacture and commissioning.
