Siliken Canada Corporation has leased a building near the airport of Windsor. Hiring of people of all sets of skills has started, equipment is on the way, start of production scheduled for second half of April 2011. Siliken’s President Carlos Navarro announced the company’s commitment to Detroit’s twin city back in October, together with the City’s Mayor Eddie Francis and Minister’s Duncan and Pupatello. Now the plans have moved forward with their occupancy of a 50,000 ft2 building on 3400 St. Etienne Blvd., known by Windsorites as the “Concours Mold” building.
Siliken’s plans are to gradually bring 4 complete production lines to Ontario, which by the end of the year would add up to 50 MW of output capacity. The first lines are arriving end of February.
The plant will generate above 150 direct jobs in Windsor. On top of that, the modules produced will be installed and maintained by unnumbered professionals all around the province.  The modules produced out of Windsor will generate clean electricity at the lowest long term cost, equivalent to the consumption of about 19.000 homes. This will avoid the emission into the atmosphere of 40.000 tons of CO2 per year and the generation of 40 grams of highly radioactive residue. This new production plant will join the others the Siliken group currently runs in Spain, Romania and the US, and its output will be dedicated to the local demand for Ontario-made modules, currently increasing in view of the possible shortage to be expected by the middle of this year. With this manufacturing plant Siliken will be able to offer high quality UL-certified modules to Canadian developers and installers, as required in order to fulfill the Domestic Content Requirements stipulated in the FIT program. With its incorporation in Canada, the Siliken group will reinforce its current international presence (Spain, Italy, Germany, France, UK, Czech Republic, Greece, Belgium, Holland, USA, India and Japan) and increase its production capacity, adding up to 325 MW per year worldwide. Siliken is one of the most renowned European manufacturers and uses its own equipment to obtain the high quality third parties praise their products with. Siliken’s module came in 1st place 7 out of 12 times last year in the monthly performance comparison published by the prestigious Photon magazine. Siliken has a silicon and trichlorosilane purification plant, designs and manufactures its own production machinery, has manufactured mono and polycrystalline modules since 2001, high power inverters, structures for roof-top and ground-mount installations, protection devices, string monitors and other components. Siliken can also provide all sorts of services related to EPC contracting.
