"GDF SUEZ Rassembleurs d’Energies" promoting sustainable energy access for all people
Last week, in the presence of a number of personalities from civil society, the not-for-profit sector and social entrepreneurs, GDF SUEZ disclosed details on its program "GDF SUEZ Rassembleurs d’Energies". This initiative is dedicated to offering the industrial performance of GDF SUEZ to sustainable energy access to all. On this occasion, a report was made on the situation regarding energy access needs in Europe and around the world, along with personal accounts from social entrepreneurs in the field, and a presentation of this ambitious and dynamic program launched by the Group.
Throughout "GDF SUEZ Rassembleurs d’Energies", the Group is aiming at promoting the economic and social development of isolated regions and at reducing energy insecurity in Europe and worldwide. This program is organized around 3 potential initiatives: skills sponsorship, donation and investments that can be implemented either separately or in a combined way.
The creation of an investment program completes the achievements of the corporate foundation and of the employee associations that have enabled energy access to over 1 million people over the past ten years.
The fund that will be endowed with 100 million Euros by 2012, will invest, through an investment fund aimed at promoting solidarity efforts, in sustainable energy access projects for disadvantaged communities. The Group is currently in advanced discussions with different local social entrepreneurs throughout the world and among others in India.
The ambition of GDF SUEZ, through "GDF SUEZ Rassembleurs d’Energies", is to sponsor up to 20 significant projects with high social impact by 2013.
Speaking at the event, Gérard Mestrallet, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of GDF SUEZ, said: "In order to strengthen and further integrate our social responsibility, we are launching a new dynamic: “GDF SUEZ Rassembleurs d’Energies”. This program is particularly innovative because of its global scale and variety of modes of action. It is based on a partnership approach with NGOs, public authorities, companies, the general public and, above all, the Group’s employees."
